What is the difference between FR and FRLS-H wire?
FR (Flame Retardant) wire has PVC insulation compounded to resist the spread of flame along the wire. FRLS-H (Flame Retardant Low Smoke & Halogen) goes a step further: when it does burn, it gives off far less smoke and less acidic halogen gas, which matters for escape visibility in enclosed, occupied spaces. FR is the general-purpose choice; FRLS-H is increasingly specified for apartments, basements and commercial interiors.
Which wire size should I use for home wiring?
As a general guide for Indian homes: 1.0 or 1.5 sq.mm for lighting circuits, 2.5 sq.mm for 6A/16A power sockets, 4 sq.mm for air conditioners and geysers, 6 sq.mm for heavy AC points and sub-mains, and 10 sq.mm for mains. Circuit length and load matter, so always confirm the size with your electrician or electrical consultant.
